Full Frontal Friday Part Deux: The Beast of Nod- "Vampira: Disciple of Chaos"

Greetings on this glorious Friday, Abyss! Week two of Full-Frontal Fridays, in which we share with you a full, official album stream from a record that makes us want to break things, finds us listening to an album we got a quick taste of a week or so ago and left us wanting more. When The Beast of Nod released "T.C.T.W.A.D.M.L.C. (The Cybernetic Tiger with a Dorsal-Mounted Laser Cannon)" as a single, I instantly got a big, stupid smile on my face-without even hearing a note. Metal can be a serious business; too serious, sometimes, and as a fan of everything from King Crimson to Mr. Bungle, I dig it when really good musicians can play their guts out while clearly having a good time. Creating a fantasy world (in this case, the Land of Nod) and then structuring a progressive technical death metal around it is my kind of gonzo, and The Beast of Nod deliver. But if the gimmick ended where writing a good song began, I never would have bothered you with this. The fact of the matter is that "Vampira: Disciple of Chaos," the debut LP from Boston, Massachusetts' The Beast of Nod, is as inventive and fun an initial offering from a band that I've heard in a long time. Taking their cues from Animals as Leaders, Dying Fetus, among others, TBoN have written 40 minutes of convention-defying music that sounds as though Spawn of Possesion kicked Dream Theater in the nads (they had it coming, by the way) and I,Valiance had to break it up. So you know what to do, loyal Abyss reader! Click that YouTube video below and enjoy 'Vampira: Disciple of Chaos' in its entirety on The beast of Nod's official YT channel. BONUS RADNESS: Subscribe to their channel (like I did) and after the official release plays through, you can hear the instrumental version of the album as well. The band says that releasing this was a last minute decision and MAN am I glad they did. Vampira does not sound at all like it was written and recorded by newcomers to the genre, as you're soon to discover. Also, "Bonus Radness" sounds like Bill & Ted's attempt at speaking Latin. Rage on! JPR
