I'm convinced that what the world needs now is more face-searing, relentlessly frenetic and undeniably authentic technical death metal. Fortunately, our Dutch friends Apophys agree, and are back with their sophomore release 'Devoratis,' out now on Ultimate Massacre Productions. Take the spastic rage and brutality of bands like Cattle Decapitation and Vader, couple them with the surgical precision of technical death masters like Becoming the Archetype and Cryptopsy, and package it in engaging, accessible song structures a la In Flames and Unearth and you've got Apophys.
But don't take my word for it. Actually, that's some pretty solid life advice right there. Maybe I should start posting more faux-wisdom about how ripping Corey Taylor could both reduce your debt, reverse male pattern baldness and cure opioid-induced constipation. I could be the John Tesh of metal! Any-who, check out 'What We Will Be' and if you survive the audible onslaught and don't hate me for reminding you that you're going bald, speak your mind in the comments section. Rage on! JPR
