Because Iced Earth, That's Why!

As if the world needed more evidence that Florida's Iced Earth remains one of power metal's preeminent bands, they released their 12th studio album, "Incorruptible" in June of this year on Century Media records, to strong reviews. Despite the baton of lead vocals being passed from Gene Adam to Matt Barlow to Tim Owens, before being passed back to Matt Barlow and then (finally, for now) to Stu Block, the band's sound has remained remarkably consistent on each successive record. Credit rhythm guitarist Jon Schaffer who, in addition to being the chief song writer and only original member of the band, has also co-produced every IE album since their eponymous debut. I've said it more times than I care to count, but the guy at the sound board is ultimately responsible for the finished product, good or bad. So on my patent not-pending "Good" scale, which ranges from "Not At All Good", to "Super Duper Good," Incorruptible ranks a solid "Pretty Darn." Check out Iced Earth's newest single, Black Flag, and let us know in the comments if you think we need more of the pirate metal sub-genre. My vote is yes, because the phrase "Swab the poop deck!" is used far too infrequently in modern metal. I'm a child, I know. Rage on! JPR
